Rev. Evan W. Hill
I am a North Carolinian by birth, a United Methodist by marriage, and a disciple of Jesus by the grace of God.
My path into ordained ministry was hardly a straight one (is it ever?). I devoted myself both to Jesus and to songwriting in my teens, and for a decade or so, songwriting received the more faithful devotion. I pursued it with a degree in Music Recording at UNC-Asheville and as I played in bands and worked in recording studios. As fun as that was, my soul longed for something more.
That was when Christ showed me the beauty of His Church. At the urging of my mother-in-law, I found my way into a small United Methodist Church in Asheville and saw for the first time how the Church really is the body of Christ, Jesus in action in the world. My love for Jesus has been tied up with the Church ever since. That little Church was where I heard God’s calling into ordination. I went to seminary at Candler School of Theology and began the pastoral life in 2016.
I am passionate about spiritual formation, which is the lifelong process of getting the gospel into our head, our heart, and our bodies. I’m passionate about it because I believe a church thrives when its people are seeking to walk together in the way of Jesus.
Ordained ministry is not my only vocation. God has also called me to be a husband to Kellie and a father to Porter.
Aside from playing music, I love short stories and board games and walking in the woods.
