The following are currently active musical groups…
Handbell & Handchime Groups:
Valley River Ringers: This group meets at FUMC and is under the direction of Suzanne West, but consists of 13 auditioned ringers from Murphy and surrounding areas. The choir rings only Level 3 and above music. They meet Tuesday nights in the bellroom. They prepare for Christmas and spring concerts in many different venues.
Wesley Ringers: Adult handbell ringers that meet on Wednesdays in the bellroom. This group participates in worship services many times throughout the year.
Chancel Choir: This choir meets on Wednesdays in the choir room to prepare service music. They also meet Sunday mornings prior to the worship service, to prepare their hearts, minds, and voices to lead in worship. They also usually work on an Easter and/or Christmas cantata.
This instrumental group is open to anyone in the congregation with piano or keyboard skills. Members of this group provide music prior to and during the worship services.
Depending on the participation and interest by the congregation and the community, the Church also supports the following programs:
Wesley Ensemble: This is an trio or quartet of bellringers that meets on Wednesdays from 5-5:30pm. The ensemble does not meet on a regular basis, but as needed.
Joy Ringers: This is a handchime group mostly made up of retirees. They ring in local nursing homes.
Youth Handbells: This handbell and choirchime group is open to any youth grades 6-12. They ring in worship, in surrounding churches, and on our Spring Mission Trip.
Gospel Trio: Under the direction of Wally Avett, this group performs during worship services both in their home church and in other places of worship.
Wesley Mixed Ensemble: This group is an SATB quartet which meets right after choir rehearsal on Wednesday nights.
Revelation Choir: This choir is for upper elementary school children grades 2-5. They also sing outside worship services in ministry to elderly and shut-ins.
Exultation Choir: An auditioned quartet of girls’ voices. It includes students from grades 6 to 12.
