The Social Principles of the United Methodist Church
describe ways that the church pursues Scriptural directives
to seek justice for all of God’s children as well as God’s creation.
Here are some ways that Murphy First takes action.

Justice Team -We are committed to learning and living into God’s work in the world. This includes developing learning opportunities for our congregation, working with local partners on “upstream” approaches to social challenges like food insecurity, and leaning into our own UM Social Principles for direction on our congregational identity and actions.

Rough and Ready – This is a group of men in the church who are on call for repair, maintenance, and small building jobs for members of our church or community.

Common Ground – Common Ground is a grassroots organization working for peace and justice in WNC through education, advocacy, and community building that is inclusive and intentional. We believe in the sacred worth of every person ad are comitted to finding and creating common ground where everyone can flourish and belong. We’re known for our monthly “Community Suppers,” movie nights, and conversation series–all of which serve our goal of creating spaces where we grow in love, acceptance, respect, and understanding of all.
